Our guest blogger Antonio Tooley, a consultant at the essay writing service EduGeeksClub, shares some of his favorite platforms that facilitate collaboration online. One of the platforms he recommends is GoogleDrive. Google's app makes it easy for a student to create a document or file and then invite their group members to edit it. Every month we are going to feature a different, and hopefully FREE, iPad/iPod/iPhone educational application.
Visit our ever-changing app page. (www.internet4classrooms.com/links_grades_kindergarten_12/apps_web2_tools.htm)
The App of the Month for January is GroupMe. GroupMe is a FREE messaging app available for all devices-even your computer. With GroupMe you can add anyone to a group via their phone number or email address. If they are new to GroupMe, they can start chatting over SMS immediately. Don't worry about getting notifications all the time, with GroupMe you can mute specific chats or even the entire app. Teachers can set up Classroom Notice chat groups for parents to stay connected, and parents can easily organize classroom celebrations in the app instead of playing email tag. With GroupMe the gallery for each group allows you to explore all of
the photos and videos that have been shared in the group.
GroupMe is available for both Apple and Android devices, it is also available on the web.
Compatibility: Requires iOS 8.0 or later on Apple devices and varies depending on your Android device.

Tech Tip #1: Give Parents Access to Assignments
Tech Tip #2: Quickly Type Website Addresses
You can use keyboard shortcuts to auto-complete a web address in your browser. After typing in the domain name, press CTRL+ENTER for ".com", SHIFT+ENTER for ".net", and CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER for ".org". Add ALT in any combination, it will not only auto-complete the web address but open the website in a new tab. More keyboard shortcuts here.
Tech Tip #3: Search Within a Specific Site
Did you know you can narrow your search on Google by a type of site or with a specific site? Start your search with "site:", add the website you want to search, and then the terms you want to search for. You can do the same with .org and .edu sites - to search only .edu sites, type "site:.edu" and then your search terms. Find more Google
search tips here and information about search engines here.
