 This Month's Blog

This month's blog is   How to Encourage Students Who Feel Like They Do Not Fit In . When we notice that kids don't like school or stay isolated from all their classmates, it's a problem. Teachers and parents should not just leave these students to cope with the struggle of not fitting in all by themselves. Something can be done, and something should be done. This month's blog goes through a few methods that teachers may rely on, so they can encourage these students to make that effort to fit in.

Guest blogger Olivia Ryan is an incurable optimist who always sees the glass as half-full. She likes nature, knows how to enjoy silence and is keen on writing for a variety of websites.

  Technology Tips

Tech Tip #1: UC Berkeley's Understanding Science for Technology Teachers

UC Berkeley's Understanding Science website is a must for all science teachers. It is a great resource for learning more about the process of science. The resource goes much deeper than the standard "PHEOC" model of the scientific method by emphasizing peer review, the testing of ideas, a science flowchart and "what is science?" checklist. Understanding Science also provides a variety of teaching resources including case studies of scientific discoveries and lesson plans for every grade level. Learn more in the website found: HERE.

Tech Tip #2: 12 Easy Ways to Use Technology in the Classroom, Even for Technophobic Teachers

Everyone wants teachers to use technology in the classroom. But you're busy -- meeting standards, prepping students for tests -- and maybe you're not too fond of computers, anyway. Never fear - there are easy ways to bring your classroom up-to-date, technologically. Learn more by visiting: HERE.

Tech Tip #3: 15 Tools for Teaching History With Technology - A Handout

One of the things that teachers often for is a set of tools to get them started on using technology in their classrooms. Richard Byrne has put together a short PDF that contains a few options for a three or four common activities in a social studies class. Think of the PDF as a starter kit. The PDF found at the link below has recommendations for tools to create timelines, tools to create videos, tools to create digital maps, and tools to help students conduct better web research. You can find out more: HERE.
