This week's theme is: Vacation

Word List 1

1. resort: A place to gather with friends and relax.
2. content: happy and satisfied
3. compare: To look very closely at how things are alike.
4. contrast: To look very closely at how things are different.

Thursday Activities

1. Create a mind map with words that mean the opposite or antonyms. Use the thesaurus built into your word program to find more words that are antonyms. Or you can go to this on-line thesaurus.
2. Use this site, Bubbl.us,to create mind maps online. The directions for using this tool are on the right side of the page. Print out your creation and insert it in your vocabulary notebook.
3. Go to the Spelling City website. Type in your list of vocabulary words. Click on the button that says Play A Game. Choose an activity to play.

Use the daily activities to help you remember words that you learn each week. It is much easier to remember what the words mean if you do something with them and use them frequently in talking with your parents, family and friends.

Sample sentences:

My family and i went to a resort by the ocean.
We looked at many resorts before deciding on the best place.

We were very content with our resort choice.
After a delicious meal my mom cooked, I was very content.

When I go to the grocery I compare the cereals to see which is healthy.
I took a long time to compare the 2 pair of shoes.

The temperature contrast between the North and the South is very clear.
