Grade 3-4: Vocabulary Lesson for Monday, Week 3

This week's theme is: Exercise


Word List 3

  1. active: moving, in action, in motion
  2. moisture: damp, a little bit wet
  3. gradual: not suddenly, but little by little, step by stept
  4. prevent: stop something from happening
  5. prepare: to get ready for a particular purpose

Monday Activities

  1. On Week One, we suggested you purchase a notebook. You will be keeping your weekly words, definitions and assignments in this notebook. Write each word and definition in your vocabulary book. Practice saying your words with a grown up to make sure you are pronouncing them correctly.
  2. Create your own sentence using each word and write this in your vocabulary notebook. We have provided samples below to get you started.
  3. Use this dictionary link to check the pronounciation of each word. Type each word in the box on the left, then click the sound icon to listen.

Use the daily activities to help you remember words that you learn each week. It is much easier to remember what the words mean if you do something with them and use them frequently in talking with your parents, family and friends.

Sample sentences:

Being active will keep your heart healthy.
The little boy was so active that his mom had a hard time keeping up with him.

Moisture beaded on her face when she ran in the race.
You could see the moisture on her shirt after she was exercising.

She gradually was able to run further and further.
The weight came off gradually as the weeks went by.

By exercising she hopes to prevent getting ill.
You can prevent obesity by keeping active.

He prepares himself for the race by imagining that he wins.
It is wise to prepare yourself for emergencies.
