Grade 5-6: Vocabulary Lesson for Thursday, Week 6

This week's theme is: Bullying


Word List 6

  1. continuous: going on and on without stopping
  2. unruly: hard to control, disobedient
  3. predicament: a situation that is difficult and unpleasant
  4. provoke: to anger or annoy
  5. intimidate: to make threats, to make others afraid
  6. persecute: to treat people cruelly
  7. hostile: hateful, angry

Thursday Activities

  1. Flashcardstash- Flashcard Stash allows you to create and customize your own digital flashcards. You can create flashcards with anything. Such as dates for History class, vocabulary for French class, or words for the SAT.
  2. Connectors - Click on the link and type in your vocabulary words and their definitions in the three columns. Your definitions will be typed in column 2 and continue in column 3. Print out the sheet and cut it into the individual blocks. Keep the pieces in a Ziploc bag and try to put the connectors together during your travel time or free time at home.
  3. Motivator: Create your own motivational poster to help keep you motivated! Add some motivational text about learning vocabulary words.

Use the daily activities to help you remember words that you learn each week. It is much easier to remember what the words mean if you do something with them and use them frequently in talking with your parents, family and friends.

Sample sentences:

Continuous bullying should be reported to school officials.
He experienced continuous bullying from the gang.

She became unruly when the principal told her to stop.
The unruly student was told to stop bullying people.

If you are in this predicament, tell your parents.
This predicament will only get worse if no one else knows.

The boy tried to provoke his victim.
A bully will do whatever it takes to provoke others.

The bully hopes to intimidate others by staring at them.
The new girl was intimidated by the boy's words.

Bullies persecute their victims.
Do not let others persecute you.

She was very hostile to the new girl.
He acts hostile to everyone he meets.
