Grade 9-10: Vocabulary Lesson for Friday, Week 2

Word List 2

  1. agile: characterized by quickness, lightness, and ease of movement; nimble
  2. benign: kind and gentle, mild, harmless
  3. convey: to carry from one place to another; to communicate or make known
  4. durable: able to withstand wear and tear, or decay; able to perform over a long period
  5. elite: the best or most skilled members of a group
  6. gullible: easily deceived
  7. hover: to remain floating, suspended, or fluttering in the air

Friday Activities

  1. Click the link to go to Study Stack. Click on "create your own flashcards" at the top of the page. Register to create a free account. After the account is set up, click on "Would you like to Create new stack?" Name your stack. We suggest you put your initials first then add "I4C_List 2" An example of a list name would be JR_I4C_List 2 . For the "description", we suggest "Internet 4 Classrooms Summer Program 2010." For the "Category," we suggest private.
  2. Click on the choice that says "Generate random fill-in-the-blank clues for activities." Click on "Save Changes" Write down your user name and password. We will be adding our words to the stacks each Friday.
  3. Click on the "Data" tab. Write your words on the left and the definitions on the right. If you run out of blank areas, click on the Save Changes button at the bottom, then it will give you more room to add more. The icons at the bottom of the page are the various games you can choose to play. Select a game for this week and see how well you do!

Use the daily activities to help you remember words that you learn each week. It is much easier to remember what the words mean if you do something with them and use them frequently in talking with your parents, family and friends.

Sample sentences:

The striker on our team is one of the most agile soccer players I have ever seen.
I was chosen for the debate team because of my agile mind.

My grandmother was relieved to hear that her tumor was benign.
My Dad wanted to be a football coach but his benign manner made the players feel that he was not serious.

"Please convey my greetings to your grandmother," the friendly old guy next door told me.
The wires that run all over our city are used to convey electricity to homes.

Jack Adams is the most durable fullback that has ever played for our team.
A plastic sword is light but not very durable.

Each year the elite players are recognized as members of the All-State team.
Wealthy people often make up the elite of a society.

My cousin is so gullible that he believes all of my lies.
Con artists would go broke if no one was gullible.

I love to watch humming birds hovering over the flowers.
