  1. In 1664, the colony of New Jersey was founded.
  2. In 1884, John Lynch became the first African American elected as chairman of the Republican Convention.
  3. In 1901, the first major exhibition from Pablo Picasso opened in Paris,France. He was 19.
  4. In 1916, Mary Pickford became the first woman actress to get a million dollar contract.
  5. In 1930, construction began on the Cleveland Stadium.
  6. In 1947, a pilot named Ken Arnold spotted what he thought were flying saucers flying over Mount Rainier.
  7. In 1957, original episodes of "I Love Lucy" aired for the last time on CBS.
  8. In 1982, the Supreme Court rules you can't sue the President for his actions in office.
  9. In 1983, the Challenger Space Shuttle landed after its 6 day mission, with the first American woman to fly into space, Sally Ride.
  10. In 1992, Billy Joel received an honorary high school diploma at the age of 43 from Hicksville High School.
