History: What Happened Today?
- In 1534, Jacques Cartier discovered Prince Edward Islands in Canada.
- In 1613, William Shakespeare's Globe Theater burns down.

- In 1950, the United States beats England 1-0 in a World Cup soccer game. (Their next win in was to be in 1994.)
- In 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed after 83-day filibuster in the US Senate.
- In 1972, the US Supreme Court rules (5-4) that Death Penalty is cruel & unusual.
- In 1990 - Oakland A's Dave Stewart no-hits Blue Jays & Dodger's Fernando Valenzuela no-hits St Louis 6-0, 1st time no-hitters in both leagues
- Earthquakes: In 1991 - 6.0 earthquake hits Southern California and in 1992 - 2 earthquakes including 7.4 hits Southern California.
- In 1995, the American space shuttle Atlantis docks with the Russian space station Mir to form the largest man-made satellite ever to orbit the Earth.
