  1. In 1666, the Great Fire of London, which started on Sept. 2 at the bakery of Thomas Farriner (or Farynor) on Pudding Lane, ends, leaving 13,200 houses destroyed.
  2. In 1885, the first ever gasoline pump is delivered to a gasoline dealer in Indiana.
  3. In 1863, citizens assembled for a Bread revolt in Mobile, Alabama. Since the war had begun, prices had increased sevenfold, and the poor in the cities were unable to afford the necessities of life.
  4. In 1906,Brandbury Robinson, college football player for St. Louis University, made the first legal forward pass to Jack Schneider.
  5. 1955 - Fred Kaps becomes world champion magician. He was the only magician to become FISM (International Federation of Magic Societies) Grand Prix world champion three. times.
  6. In 1960, Cassius Clay captures Olympic light heavyweight gold medal, gaining international attention
  7. In 1960, Wilma Rudolph wins her 2nd gold medal at the Rome Summer Games.
  8. In 1970, the rainfall state record in Bug Point, Utah was made with an estimated 15 cm (6") of rainfall.
  9. In 1980, the world's longest auto tunnel, St. Gotthard Tunnel, opens in the Swiss Alps.
  10. In 1986, Whitney Houston wins the third MTV Video Music Awards for "How Will I Know".
  11. Famous Birthdays: Freddie Mercury ( British vocalist - Queen-We are Champions), Graham Salmon (blind runner -fastest 100m by a blind man), Barbara Lufthansa Herzog (born during Lufthansa Frankfurt-NY flight), Tatyana Gutsu (Ukrainian gymnast), Trey Hill (Grammy-nominated musician)
