  1. In 1509, King Henry VIII marries, Catherine of Aragon, his first of six wives.
  2. In 1793, the first patent for a stove was issued to Robert Haeterick.
  3. In 1927, the first Distinguished Flying Cross was presented to Charles A. Lindberg.
  4. In 1930, William Beebe dives to a record-setting depth of 1,426 feet off the coast of Bermuda in a diving chamber called a bathysphere.
  5. In 1947, sugar rationing was ended by the U.S. government.
  6. In 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is arrested in Florida when trying to integrate restaurants in that state.
  7. In 1972, Hank Aaron tied the National League record for 14 grand-slam home runs in a career.
  8. In 1982, "ET the Extraterrestrial", the movie, was first shown.
  9. In 1985, Karen Ann Quinlan, a comatose patient, died at age 31. Her case led to a right-to-die court decision.
  10. In 1987, Margaret Thatcher becomes the first British Prime Minister in 160 years to win a third conscutive term.
